Hoefler & Frere-Jones

The Hoefler & Frere-Jones foundry in New York is based upon the work of two talented designers, Jonathan Hoefler and Tobias Frere-Jones.

Hoefler is a very experienced type designer whose commissions include work for Harper’s Bazaar (HTF Didot), Rolling Stone (HTF Proteus Project), Travel & Leisure (HTF Requiem), Sports Illustrated (HTF Champion Gothic), and Apple Computer (Hoefler Text).

Frere-Jones, who left Font Bureau after seven years as senior designer, to join Hoefler in 1999, is similarly talented. With a legendary eye for detail, he has over 500 typefaces to his name, many of which were designed as custom designs for magazines and newspapers. He gives lectures on type design.

The Canadian type designer Sara Soskolne also works for the foundry.
