Actual font?

I found what I believe is a knock-off of this font (Aegina?), but I'd prefer to have the genuine article. Anybody know what this one is?

Font identified as Verve.

this is also a knockoff, but the shaded is newly made

the original font is not available -- MGB Patrician (Don Munson 1980) was an exclusive font that only Haber Typographers was allowed to use

or “Mazama” only

The closest you can find today of the genuine article are old Letraset transfer letters... and that’s only if you can find them.

OptiFont also had their own version called Protea

Also, once upon a time, M.G.B. Patrician from Letraset Limited, 1982, Made in England ... Letragraphica transfer letters ... still have the sheets.

Bldown - Not made in England.
Don Munson, former Art Director of Ballantine Books, NYC -- designed MGB Patrician. (The initials I believe were for him, his wife and partner, the Patrician for his daughter)
At first it was a typositor exclusive at Haber. They would bill out 2 dollars a letter for each letter they set. Eventually, it was turned over to Letraset and made a rub on transfer - with those great alternative "S"s...
Mr. Munson left his job - Haber’s shop moved into Image’s shop - and old man Haber, left the office one night - took 4 steps outside the door, had a heart attack, and was found dead on the floor later that night....

Yikes - night now... that was a different world and a different time...

at the time, Jackie, I was working for Typographic Images (Phil Haber had suddenly become a nice guy -- I had worked for him only 2 months at his own place when he was NOT nice) -- his Typositor fonts were acquired by Images (along with his son -- who was NOT nice)

Neither father nor son were ever very nice

P.S. Son is now a lawyer - need we say more?

P.P.S. I’m so sorry Philippe....

As a former sign painter/designer, MGB Patrician was always one of my favorite fonts. Condensed fonts are a necessity when designing for customer’s with long names.

Patrician allowed for a classy look, while still squeezing lots of letters into a limited space. I miss it dearly. Verve is close, but I’d prefer the real thing.

I still have my old Letraset Catalogs & can send anyone a scan of the font, if they like.

Huh?

  --heron2001 on 2008-07-01 10:09:56 (588d 17h 29m 39s ago)

koeiekat,

I don’t know Heron or Schwalbenkonig. I just joined the forum today, because I was looking for MGB Patrician & saw this thread.

Anyway, if you email me, I will then have your address & can send you the file.

My email addy is flyhead7 at yahoo d0t c0m <---You know what to do with the @ & the . (dot). A friend told me to always do this when posting it online, to keep search engines from finding my addy & spamming me.

I will first have to dig out my old catalog & bring it to work tomorrow, so you may have to wait a bit. Especially, if I forget in the morning. Reminders are welcome though! I am getting a little soft in the head, as I head (SLOWLY!) toward old age. I do need reminding every now & then.
