Anyone know this font?

It’s My Chemical Romance’s new font for their new album “The Black Parade”

this is a cool trash look, but it is likely hand done. Notice how the two cap M’s are dissimilar? As well as the two cap E’s, and cap C’s? If this was a font, you’d expect them to be identical, unless it was an Open Type font, but to my knowledge, I haven’t seen an Open Type trash font like this yet. Yeah i was looking around...and found a similar “hand made” font...

Looked at mine...and figured it was hand made...but i was hoping...lol...

MCR can afford to have someone custom make it...

It is my oppinion that this is actually an unidentified new style “trash font”
I think that the letters are likely each distorted or streateched to give more disheveled look but it is an actual font!
I think this, because of stumbling on two things from Pirates of the Carrabien, that use what I think is the same font!
Now, mind you, one is printed on a book cover and the other is embroidered so it wont look exact... but I think the trained eye in font study will agree with me!

If they were simply stretched or distorted, they would still have the same thicknesses in the same areas. No, your samples don’t look like fonts. They look hand drawn or painted.

There are a few artists out there that can use a brush and create letters like that. They are calligraphers.

Not everything lettered you see in the world is a font. In fact, most high end logos are custom made, and you won’t find a complete font in that style that has been digitized.

That isn’t necessarily so. I have seen several fonts in my day that have different glifs beyond bold and italic. Each having it’s own variation of each letter. You may very well be correct in your oppinion, but there is a chance that this is, or will surface as a font in the future. If you look closely, the Capital C in Chemical and the lowercase smashed C in romance is the same. I took the C into my art program and smashed it from top to bottom and go the same appearance.
Even if this isn’t an actual font. I can imagine if the demand stays high for it, someone, maybe the original creator, may make an entire alphabet. So those who want this font, keep searching and inquiring about it, and maybe someday it will be a font.

While I agree with eyehawk...you have a point, raven, that if folks want this “trash” style lettering bad enough, someone will make it into a font.

We just had another query about an MCR sample today here.

I check’d into it Jan and was excited to see a few new letters added to the mix!
We now have A,B,C,E,F,H,I,L,M,N,O,R,S,W,Y
All we need now is D,G,J,K,P,Q,T,U,V,X & Z
although if we want to make our own additions, we could make Q from the O and a V by altering a W or an M... also some letters can be found in the Black Parade scratch logo as well.

Hey, I am quite disapointed that this font isnt “findable” or in existance.
So asof that, i am in the process of creating a MCR Font from that image alone. But you will NOT be able to create the exact MCR logo with the font. as i am resizing / distorting the letters, etc.
Anyway, will post soon as i am finished.

Okay, ive finished it. Its not perfect as the font software didnt like making it the size i made it, and loved pixelising it a little. And the fact i had to cut the letters and edit them in Photoshop.

You can also use some letters from the black parade logo,
this will give you
abcdehiklmnorsw(upside down m)y these letters
then you would only have to create the following
fgjpq(could be made from an o)tuvxz

and when you say “will NOT be able to create the exact MCR logo with the font”
I think a lot of people want this font for that exact reason, and hopefully with your font creation, we could distort it in our art programs such as corel or photoshop.
Also we want the font to be comparable to it (at least speaking for myself) in some projects, without having to use other fonts

Well, Ive tried to make the MCR logo, It is quite similer. Ive improved the font quality a little, Still looks abit “crap” in high font size. But im sure you’ll like it.
Meanwhile, my host is still down, so ive currently placed it on Rapidshare.

twigslayer - what you have installed on Rapidshare is called ExcessMCR.ttf and is mostly arabic. Pease tell us what this has to do with “My Chemical Romance”?

As for your before and after images - very interesting - but you do realize the original was handlettered - and that the C, M E, A letter formats are all different - they don’t match up...

Nice for a first attempt though.

The font ive created is the Arial font, with the alphabet i created using the MCR Logo added in. Therefor the text is MCR Style, but everything else isnt.

twig, I think you did an excellent job! nevermind heron! You explained it wasn’t going to be exact before posting it, so I was prepared, I was pleasantly suprised, that although it isn’t the cleanest font I have ever seen, it will work nicely in smaller formats to go along with mcr styles to compliment layouts!

I am a graphic artist and work with fonts and have quite the collection, but I have never tried to make one, and would not know where to begin!
I would love some tutoring when you have a second!

I opened the font- and all that was there was Arabic letters -- I don’t know how you got to see anything different in the actual .ttf font.

I have a seriously great art program and I spent some time making this a really clean font!
I used some letters from the original “We Are The Black Parade” logo too, so all I had to create was an F,G,J,P,Q,S,U,V,W(flipped M)X &Z!

twigs was an “O” font, so may have been why some folks had issues making it work.

Actually it is NOT a modified version of Angry blue.
Angry blue has some similar characteristics, but after searching some other open face and trash fonts, I found others with closer relations than angry blue ever dreamed of. There is one font, that doesnt coem to mind that has that big oversized O and onother that the y looks similar, I kind of think that some letters were taken from several different fonts in the beginning as a guide for what they had in mind, then some cool artist, possibly Gerard brushed it out!

Anyway, made my font a deviant page as well.

Wow...I can’t believe I generated this much interest...
I was just seeing if it was a font or not...

I figured it was custom done...cause Gerard Way, the lead singer and creator of the band started his life off as a cartoonist...and then he decided like 2-4 years out of college that he wanted to do something more with his life...

And started MCR...
I believe the album art for the Black Parade...is also his work...although I have no proof or confirmation...it’d only seem right...since bands always have their vision of what the album art should be like...and then the artists they hire EFF it all up...
