Imaad Phoplunker is a typeface designer and computer scientist from the UK. With both a curiosity for the expressive capabilities of typography, and a distinctive perspective provided through his computer science university education, Imaad brings his unique interpretation of typography to life through his designs.

Though his studies that earned him his degree were focused in a different field, Imaad has been independently learning and developing his type design abilities in his spare time. His history of self-teaching spans back over 10 years, to when he started to learn about various design software early in high school.

When it comes to type design, Imaad believes that it is important for a typeface to have its own personality that is expressed through its design choices. He also believes that it is important that the fonts he creates are consistent to their rules, as it results in a more cohesive font, more able to convey its own identity. In terms of design, Imaad’s focus is generally on sans serif and display fonts, though he does occasionally experiment with other types as well.

Beyond type design, Imaad also spends time on his own independent software design projects, often utilising his proficiencies in commonly used programming languages such as C# and Python. As he also has an interest in video games, many of his programming projects tend to involve him making games of his own. In all of his designs, Imaad aims for clarity and accessibility, which he believes leads to a better experience for all.
