About Reader Condensed Font Family

Reader is a neo–grotesque typeface initially created in a single Medium weight.. The typeface itself is based on a reference from an RSPB letter dating 1972. The name of the typeface comes from the original reference of whom the letter is addressed to — Reader.

The original typeface, which is unknown, was a mono-spaced, rounded face with geometric proportions that pushed to the very boundaries of their fixed-widthThe construction and geometric properties from this type were taken into the sketching process of Reader but without the monospaced grid and were subsequently rebalanced to give it a neo-grotesque, 1960’s swiss style feel, but also reference the symmetry and geometry of the Bauhaus.

The Condensed style brings the idiosyncratic gestures of its proportional, Neo Grotesque parent to a condensed, flat sided form variation. Retaining the warmth of the original reference whilst pairing this with organic stroke turns and open terminals, alongside strong geometric elements, Reader Condensed marries neutrality with quirk.

Reader is available in a family of seven weights — Thin, ExtraLight, Light, Regular, Medium, Bold and Black — with corresponding Italics. Reader Condensed is available in three weights — Regular, Medium and Bold.
