Steve Contreras began to learn about lettering as a sign painters apprentice while in high school.

Later, when working as a show card artist and display designer, he perfected several script and casual

alphabets of his own with pen and brush. He also became familiar with many of the standard

and decorative type faces used in point of purchase advertising. His lettering and design experience

continued as he opened his own sign company, providing hand lettering and construction of commercial

signs.
