The designer Wulf Jarosch created the font in 1974.
Kapitellia is a typical bold stencil typeface. The style got its name because this kind of lettering was once written on crates with a stencil before they were sent off to faraway places. Characteristic of this style are the white stripes that interrupt the black of the strokes. These were originally the result of the space used to hold the stencil on the crate but were adopted as an eye-catching stylistic device. The figures of Kapitellia are constructivist and based on the shape of a rectangle. Its pointed serifs and marked stroke contrast gives it a strickt, mechanical look. Kapitellia's robust figures should be used exclusively for headlines in large point sizes.
Kapitellia is part of the Linotype Library.
