MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition.

This set of numeric characters, when printed with special magnetic inks, can be read by special scanners. MICR characters are found in a variety of places, including personal checks.

MICR follows the 1970/1976 standard set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), X#.2 when set at 12-point size.
