First seen on MyFonts: March 24th, 2008 Lise InformalI finally decided to try my hand at designing an informal handwriting font. So, I grabbed a stack of greetings cards from friends and family that were handy and quickly spotted a nice note from my friend Lise in a birthday card she sent me last year. Because of the bright, upbeat energy of her writing — not to mention that it is not a script and is uppercase only — I thought it would be a good starting point. Fortunately, she used all but 2 letters of the alphabet; interestingly, she used quite a few ligatures, many of which I've included in the font. I scanned the note and auto-traced it, but that looked far more raggedy than the actual writing. Even though the rough first draft didn't really do Lise’s penmanship justice, a mutual friend of ours liked it and thought it looked “happy”. That encouraged me, so I smoothed the edges to better match the original , made the strokes more even, picked out the best 2-3 versions of each letter, played with it, carefully spaced everything, and it eventually evolved to what you see here. I hope others will enjoy using this font that I feel embodies at least some of the warmth, intelligence, playfulness and vitality of this wonderful friend of mine, Lise. |
