He solved his problem by drawing Rocky Regular and Bold with italics to fill the gap, then expanded the family with the aid of Richard Lipton.

In publications, they provide a sharp spot of typographic “color” as signature headletter series for Roger Black’s redesign of the Rocky Mountain News;
