Spira
Calligraphers of the Italian Renaissance adapted ancient models to create “italic” and “roman”, a consciously dramatic departure from standard Church Gothic.
Punchcutters followed calligraphy until the French court adopted the formality of Aldus & Griffo’s Aldine Bembo model.
Andy Stockley has returned to the vivacity of 15th-century calligraphy, capturing the soaring spirit of the Venetian originals like no other revival.
