Elysium
The influence of Czechoslovakian designer Oldrich Menhart is very much in evidence in this new Letraset family designed by Michael Gills. Classified in the typographic sense as an old style roman, Elysium has a vital, refreshing quality borne out of the designer’s love of calligraphy. Although Figural and Elysium both bear the hallmark of the great Czech designer, they are quite different in styles, with the latter taking on a more ‘crisp’ appearance. This feature, coupled with some creative and unique letterforms, has resulted in a typeface family which simply inspires reading.
