Chauncey Griffith noted that Century Schoolbook’s long serifs and close spacing led to fitting difficulties; he commissioned Rudolph Ruzicka to design an improvement. Primer lacks Century Schoolbook’s transparent generic form, but adds a distinguished personal texture to this letterform.
