Bodoni Egyptian
The definitive monoline Egyptian, Weiss’ Memphis of 1928, was devoutly industrial in its effect and set the tone for those that followed, right up to Lubalin Graph. More recently, TheSerif and Silica are humanist in form, with complex, asymmetric curved strokes in the lower case. Unique among monoline slab serif types, Bodoni Egyptian has a simple, neo-classical form and proportion, and strict detailing that is antique, not machine-age.
The Thin and Light weights are delicate fonts that work well at large sizes.
The Thin is, arguably, the lightest serifed font available.
The Bold is the “fill” font for the Shadow.
Bodoni Egyptian is not a true monoline – the vertical strokes are adjusted, made thicker for optical balance. But the overall impression of a monoline face is retained by avoiding the Clarendon-like thinning-out of joints that’s found in the bolder weights of Beton, Rockwell, etc. And most distinctively, the capitals and lower case have the same stroke weight.
Bodoni Egyptian is the “oldest” slab serif typeface, with the quaintest letter forms, e.g. g.
Bodoni Egyptian
The skeletal Bodoni given a monoline, slab serif finish. With the upper and lower case having the same stroke weight, and its rigorously classical letterforms, Bodoni Egyptian creates a unique effect that mixes well with traditional Bodoni typefaces and classic, small x-height sans serif typefaces such as Futura and Gill Sans. The Thin weight is the lightest serifed typeface in existence.
