OstblockA font family tree displays different foundries’ versions, or a foundry’s different cuts, of basically the same typeface design.
OstblockSome words from Volcano: Ostblock is an OpenType font containing 5 Stylistic Sets that let you easily build 3-dimensional letters. It is a typeface, influenced by architecture. The shapes of the letters were inspired by the apartment blocks in the center of East Berlin built in the 60s. From a bird’s eye view these blocks of concrete look like letters sometimes. I first draw the letters in 2004 in Freehand but then never created a font with it. At the time OpenType technology just started its way to fame, but I had not heard about it yet. Making a font with several layers did mean to create several font files all limited to a maximum of 256 characters. That didn't sounds so funny to me. Today all the alternate versions come in one easy-to-use font file, supporting a dozen of languages! |
