Established in 1981, Bitstream was the first independent digital font foundry and the original Bitstream Typeface Library has been a mainstay of the graphic design community for over thirty years.
In August 2000, Bitstream announced the New Font Collection (NFC) program in August of 2000 to add new fonts to the original library and, more importantly, to seek out designs from both new and established designers across the globe.
In March, 2012, the Bitstream font library (along with MyFonts) was acquired by Monotype.
