MyFonts’ review: Emtype is the foundry of Barcelona-based Argentinian designer Eduardo Manso, a designer who has already had fonts released by ITC, Bitstream and [T-26]. Relato, his “serious” book typeface, somehow combines solidity and delicacy to great effect. Some features give it strength at small sizes, others add interest at headline sizes. Dixplay is a pixel font, conceived for headlines in web pages and multimedia projects. It’s larger than most we’ve seen — 20pt is the intended size — and has taken advantage of the better resolution to offer an excellent bold and proper kerning (measured in whole pixels, naturally!).

Biography

Emtype is a “small” type foundry currently based in Barcelona, Spain, founded by Eduardo Manso in 1997.

Emtype has designed and published several types through ITC (International Typeface Corporation), Bitstream, [T-26 ] and Linotype.

The “Emtype Foundry philosophy” is to produce types of high quality, as much for display as for text use.
