MyFonts’ review: Incipit is the design studio of New Yorker Peter Bain. Peter has long been part of the New York typography scene, working with greats such as Ed Benguiat, and delving deeply into the history of lettering. Gridiot, a constructed semi-serif stencil type in 4 styles, widens an approach taken by Bauhaus designer Josef Albers.

Biography

Incipit is a design firm whose practice is built upon letters. Incipit’s work encompasses typeface design, logotypes, custom lettering and typographic design. Clients range among publishers, brand and identity consultants, advertising agencies, cultural organizations, marketers and others.

Studio projects have been recognized in Letter Arts Review; AIGA’s 50 Books; the Type Directors Club competition; and Communication Arts' Design Annual. Principal Peter Bain has written on various aspects of typography, lectured both in the U.S. and abroad, and co-curated the exhibition "Blackletter: Type and National Identity" with Paul Shaw.
