Biography
Operating as arabetics.com, Arabetics is a small private foundry specializing in the design of simplified, non-traditional, Arabic and extended Arabic fonts.
Its main type style, the Mutamathil type style, is an ‘Arabetic’ (extended Arabic) design style intended for the creation of generic, compact, calligraphy-free, typefaces and font families. The main goal of this style is to enrich and diversify the options available today to both users and vendors to render and print extended Arabic scripts.
The Mutamathil type style design principally addresses the challenges of literacy, education, economics, technology, globalism, competition, as well as text legibility and readability. With its open design approach, the Mutamathil type style incorporates three main design flavors: the right to left “Mutamathil” and “Mutamathil Taqlidi”, and the bi-directional “Mutamathil Mutlaq.” Glyphs of each of these members are designed to be rendered as isolated glyphs and to form non-cursive text trings. “Mutamathil” and “Mutamathil Mutlaq” have only one glyph (shape) per letter. “Muthamthil Taqlidi” includes additional final-position glyphs for all Arabic letters joining other letters on both sides, to substitute their default glyphs when occurring at end of words.
Additionally, both “Mutamathil” and “Mutamathil Taqlidi” include optional Lam-Alif ligatures.
