MyFonts’ review: JAB is the foundry of Joseph A. Bartolo from Malta. Hieroglyphs Nefertiti Akhenaten is a fun idea that gets hieroglyphs to represent our A thru Z. Rather than being aimed at egyptologists, this font is intended for, well, let’s say the “Pharaohphile” kind of customer. For single letters (such as drop caps) and short words, it makes adding an ancient Egyptian theme easy. Joseph ingeniously employs brackets to make oval outlines, or cartouches, so you can typeset the names of kings, queens and other gods in the ancient manner.

Biography

As this is the first time I have tried my hand at font creation, there isn't much to say about my experience in this area. Looking back though, I think I have had a secret desire to do this for quite some time. Actually I am more into digital art than fonts and have used PhotoShop for many years to create symbolic paintings. I suppose it was my love of symbols that eventually lead me to design Nefertiti. I am not sure yet if I will create any others. It really depends on the response I get to this one.

Although I have successfully completed several graphic design courses over the years, I am basically a self-taught artist. Apart from PhotoShop, I also use Corel Print House. It was with the latter program that I designed the Hieroglyphs for Nefertiti. And now I have had some experience with Font Creator 5, which is a really great program, especially for beginners because it’s so easy to use.
