MyFonts’ review: BluHead brings us two designs from New Zealander Joseph Churchward. Although the slab-serif genre can appear rather industrial, Churchward’s Conserif CW has some friendly features: bulging serifs on the ‘E’ and ‘F’ entice one in, and a nice rounded ‘a’ is always appealing. We think it would be suitable for signage where you don’t want to look too authoritarian, maybe even titles for comic strips. Design CW is an altogether more geometric exercise, but with many funky variations. We particularly like the No End style.

Biography

BluHead Studio LLC was founded in 2005 by a group of experienced typeface designers dedicated to providing high quality original typefaces and design services. The company is currently filling out the character sets and digitizing the font designs of New Zealand designer Joseph Churchward. The eventual goal is to make his entire library of exciting and unique fonts available in OpenType format.

Providing digitizing and design services as well as producing their own original designs should keep this group busy until it’s time for them to be put into the Retired and Broken Down Type Designers Home where they are sure to sit around in their wheel chairs and tell tales of the “ big serif that got away ”.
