Explanation of how to sell your fonts at MyFonts.

MyFonts: The benefits of participating

July 18, 2007

As the web site with the largest collection of fonts, and a track record of selling fonts to hundreds of thousands of casual users who have never bought a font before, MyFonts provides unparalleled opportunities for anyone wishing to sell fonts.

Participation is open to font foundries large and small (including individual designers).

New foundries will be featured in our quarterly In Your Face newsletter that is sent out to well over 300,000 users.

Each new font that you add will be featured in the MyFonts What’s New page. In addition, the Starlets page will show how your new fonts are performing compared with other recent additions.

MyFonts is a highly efficient and high-volume vehicle for selling fonts. As a result, you will receive an unusually high 65% of the actual price paid by a customer for your fonts!

You will know exactly how your fonts are selling by viewing sales reports that show each sale as it takes place.

To boost the sales of your fonts, you will be able to provide graphic images, font flags, PDF brochures, keywords, and general descriptive information. In addition, you can set up limited-time promotions in which one or more fonts are offered at discounted prices.

Other Features

  • MyFonts will set up a “Foundry Page” for each participating foundry. A list of all fonts from that foundry will be accessible from this page. We welcome material about your foundry for this page, including address, contact details, a link to your web site, a short article, and a logo.

  • Foundries can specify the designer(s) of each font. From the font pages, we will provide a link to a “Person Page,” a page at MyFonts devoted to each designer. For people who do not already have a page on MyFonts, foundries are asked to provide biographical information about such designers so that we can establish a new designer page. For each designer we can include an article, a photo, a birth date and place, links to the list of fonts they have designed, and a list of activities.

  • MyFonts will offer previews of your fonts on the site, using a consistent size and preview string so users can compare fonts easily. We will also allow “test drives” of your fonts, where users can type some text and render it at a pre-defined range of point sizes. If you wish, you may request that these renderings have non-plain backgrounds to protect against free use of your fonts for generating GIF text images.

  • To make it easy for users to find your fonts, MyFonts will associate a set of basic keywords with each submitted font family. Foundries may specify supplementary keywords or provide an alternative list of keywords for each font family.

  • In addition to viewing real-time sales reports, authorized representatives may request reports via e-mail, sent every month, every week, every day, or even every sale!

Terms and Conditions

Below is a summary of what you can expect and the key terms of the participation agreement that you will be asked to sign should you decide to join.

  • Foundries must have sufficient rights for any fonts they wish to offer for sale. If your fonts are in any way derived from fonts or designs owned by other parties, you will need to obtain permission from the owner. Foundries must be prepared to offer such permission for inspection by MyFonts.

  • Foundries must provide a set of fonts to MyFonts to be added to the database. Format can be any mixture of PC TrueType, PC Type 1, Mac TrueType, Mac Type 1, or OpenType. The font files must be valid and complete (although for highly decorative fonts just A–Z and 0–9 are acceptable). Fonts are normally provided in the final form that is to be delivered to customers — zip archives for PC users and .sit archives for Mac users. Fonts may be submitted on a CD or uploaded to the MyFonts FTP server.

  • MyFonts will include the submitted fonts in the WhatTheFont database so that they will be included in the search for a match against images uploaded by users.

  • Security of your fonts is our primary concern. MyFonts stores font files on a machine behind a firewall, not on our web-server. Only MyFonts developers and support personel who need to use the fonts will have access to the files.

  • Foundries must specify one or more representatives to authorize any changes.

  • Foundries set the retail prices of their fonts. The only limitation is that the pricing must not exceed the pricing sold through other channels. A foundry may optionally designate some of its fonts to be available free of charge.

  • Subject to this limit, foundries may change pricing at any time by notifying MyFonts in writing or by e-mail from an authorized representative.

  • Foundries who offer fonts for sale can add new keywords for their fonts at any time. MyFonts reserves the right to remove any irrelevant or misleading keywords.

  • MyFonts pays foundry’s share of the revenue received within 45 days of the end of each month. Payment may be by check in US dollars or by eCheck to a specified PayPal account.
