Explanation of how to sell your fonts at MyFonts.
October 24, 2012
MyFonts, the web site with the largest collection of fonts, has a track record of selling fonts to hundreds of thousands of users ranging from those who have never bought a font before to professional designers and advertising agencies.
Participation is open to font foundries large and small, including individual designers. A simple review process ensures that your fonts meet the standards required.
MyFonts is a highly efficient and high-volume vehicle for selling fonts, offering foundries 50% of the actual price paid by a customer for your fonts. MyFonts uses its share to run the website, actively market your fonts, and provide excellent customer and foundry support. You will know exactly how your fonts are selling by viewing online sales reports that show each sale as it takes place.
To boost the sales of your fonts, you will be able to provide graphic images, font flags, PDF brochures, tags, and general descriptive information. In addition, you can set up limited-time promotions in which one or more fonts are offered at discounted prices.
Each new font that you add will also be featured on the What’s New page. In addition, the Hot New Fonts page will show how your new fonts are performing compared with other recent additions.
More about our tools for selling fonts. As MyFonts aims to offer its customers professionally made, original fonts, we have our own Review Board of international type experts to approve the fonts proposed by foundries new to MyFonts. Fonts are reviewed on a weekly basis, ensuring quick feedback to all applicants.
Foundries or individuals wanting to sign up should send the following to signup@myfonts.com:
You will usually receive feedback within 2 weeks of submission. In individual cases or exceptionally busy periods this may take up to 30 days.
We have five levels of feedback:
Once your foundry has been accepted, you’ll receive an agreement by email to sign and return. Terms and conditions.
Once the agreement has been signed and countersigned, MyFonts will set up a “Foundry Page”. A list of the foundry’s available fonts will be accessible from this page and link to individual “Font Pages” for each family.
We welcome material about your foundry for this page, including address, contact details, a link to your own web site, a short article, and a logo.
“As a font development studio that’s been around for quite a few years, we have had relations with plenty of distributors, big and small. In our experience MyFonts has been constantly increasing the standard of how distributors should work for the designers and studios they represent in the marketplace. I can think of many unique reasons why new and existing type designers should consider MyFonts their best option for exposure and revenue out there.
“Right off the top of my head, here are a few great things available at MyFonts but not at other major distributors:”
— Patrick Griffin, Canada Type
Foundries can specify the designer(s) of each font. From the font pages, we will provide a link to a “Person Page,” a page at MyFonts devoted to each designer. For people who do not already have a page on MyFonts, foundries are asked to provide biographical information about such designers so that we can establish a new designer page. For each designer we can include an article, a photo, a birth date/location, links to the list of fonts they have designed, and a list of activities (i.e. Typography, Graphic Design, Web Design).
MyFonts will offer previews of your fonts on the site, using a consistent size and preview string so users can compare fonts easily. We will also allow “test drives” of your fonts, where users can type their own text and render it at a selected point size.
To make it easy for users to find your fonts, Foundries may specify a list of keywords for each font family.
In addition to viewing real-time sales reports, authorized representatives may request reports via e-mail, sent every month, every week, every day, or even every sale!
Below is a summary of what you can expect and the key terms of the participation agreement that you will be asked to sign should you decide to join.
