From Oldřich Menhart to Richie
Allan Haley in News on March 17, 2016
Jim Ford’s Richie™ typeface pays homage to the calligraphy and typeface designs of Oldřich Menhart (1897-1962). Inspired by Ford’s musing about what a display script by the Czech designer might look like, Richie brings Menhart’s calligraphic forms into the 21st century.
Ford drew thousands of letters to achieve just the right mix of characters and alternate designs to give the script the lively and spontaneous quality of broad -brush lettering. A distinctive and powerful, design, Richie captured the unaffected and, at times, unconventional spirit of Menhart’s letterforms. Not for the typographic faint of heart, Richie makes a statement. It’s big, bold and brash. If you need a script that stands out, this could be just the design for you.
