John Dreyfus of United Kingdom

Born: London, 1918
Died: London, 2002

English typographer and author, who took Stanley Morison’s place at the Monotype Corporation in 1955, working there until 1982 — a period of dramatic change in the industry. Dreyfus saw the importance of bringing Frutuger’s Univers design to Monotype, and went on in 1962 to commission the same designer’s Apollo, their first design explicitly for phototypesetting.

Along with Charles Peignot, he was instrumental in the founding of ATypI in 1957. He was president from 1968 to 1973.
