Lauren Ashpole

Lauren Ashpole began designing fonts at a relatively early age when her mother bought her the necessary software despite its costing more than an entire Sony Playstation and leading to a complete monopolization of the family computer.

She posted her work at the website livingend.com between 1997 and 2001. After taking a break to focus on the usual college and career angst of young adulthood, she found herself once again drawn in by the siren song of font design. Fortunately, she now owns her own computer.

Not inspired by any one thing, Candy Randy came about as an attempt to capture the feel of hours spent aimlessly perusing childrens' advertising and packaging from the early 1960s.

It always reminds me a bit of Christmas and was named after an imaginary character in tales told to my youngest sister.

Forgotten Playbill Forgotten Playbill

Years ago, I came across a vintage playbill and was struck by its lettering. The detailed floral pattern surrounded by thick outlines stayed in my mind even though the play’s name and cast have faded. I finally tried to recreate the style from memory and Forgotten Playbill is the result.

This slighty messy handwritten font was inspired by the scrawl of a teenager given a marker. Meaning it was inspired by my own quick writing at the time. Right down to the stars.

When I created my first website, I loved using vintage sewing pattern illustrations in my designs. Thinking back on it, I wanted to create a dingbat inspired by those images and Sewing Patterns is the result.

The font features ladies-fashions in silhouette form for uppercase and lowercase letters and childrens- styles for the numbers.
