Benjamin Bauermeister of USA

Born: St. Louis, Missouri, 1960

Ben Bauermeister

Co-founder of ElseWare Corporation in Seattle, with Clyde McQueen in 1990. Devised the PANOSE system for typeface classification, and helped develop it to the extent of holding enough PANOSE 2.0 parameters to recreate non-fancy typefaces to be practically indistinguishable from their originals, using only around 2kB per font. The technology lives on as font compression inside the printers of Hewlett-Packard, who bought the company in 1995.
