William Bulmer of United KingdomBorn: Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 1757 English publisher and printer active c1786–c1817. He first worked for the printer-publisher John Bell. He came to prominence as a result of being chosen by George Nicol, bookseller to King George III, to produce a major new edition of Shakespeare. The famous engraver Thomas Bewick was a childhood friend; Bulmer printed much of the artist’s work with the high degree of skill necessary for the products of Bewick’s new engraving technique.
