Some 40 km north of Helsinki, surrounded by meadows and a serene Finnish lake, lies Ainola, the former home and now museum of composer Jean Sibelius (1865–1957). I know the place quite well, since it is only a stone’s throw away from the art school where I began my graphic design studies. We sometimes went there after classes—a beautiful walk, especially in spring, when the days were getting longer, the snow melting in the sun and the ice cracking on the lake.

Pancho is a very informal sans serif. It’s story started with its name. Shiva Nallaperumal and Satya Rajpurohit were toying with the word “Pancho” and wondered if a typeface could be designed with just the name as a starting point, without any other conscious precedents or intended applications. Pancho is now the jester in ITF’s otherwise serious catalogue; the typeface brings comic relief to our library. The typeface pays some tribute to the work of Roger Excoffon, for instance in the top-heaviness of many of its letters, or the form of its capital “O.” Pancho is Shiva Nallaperumal’s first typeface to be published by ITF. Originally from Chennai, he is currently an MFA student at MICA in Baltimore/Maryland.
American Grunge is a spooky font. It was created using a steel pen and China ink - and a lot of splatter. American Grunge is my tribute to that nineties wave of fantastic music coming out of Seattle.

Luengo is for display purpose, but it also looks great in longer copy, making this family of 5 weights perfect for a range of uses such as brand identities, packaging and editorial. Luengo offers a full European character set, ligatures and alternatives with manual kerning and spacing.
When I initially drew the letterforms for Lust and Lust Script, I thought I had it, I thought I had created some of the most wantonly teasing letterforms I could produce. It didn't take long before I wasn't satisfied and was convinced I could take it further—but I questioned its usability. Other than being almost Venusian in proportions and bearing a much greater contrast, I worried it could not be reasonably used so I did nothing but sketch out the basics and move on. But those early sketches stuck with me, and led to refinements far faster than I anticipated… it seemed almost natural to continue on, so I developed each of the 4 main styles associated with Lust: the Regular, Didone, Italic AND Script. All have been completed and mastered to worked seamlessly amongst their immediate and extended families.
The Neue Haas Unica™ family is an extended, reimagined version of the Haas Unica® design, a Helvetica® alternative that achieved near mythical status in the type community before it virtually disappeared. Originally released in 1980 by the Haas Type Foundry for phototypesetting technology of the day, the design was never successfully updated for today’s digital environments – until now. Toshi Omagari of the Monotype Studio has given this classic a fresh, digital facelift with more weights, more languages and more letters to meet today’s digital and print needs.
