The script predates the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Greek_alphabet\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eGreek alphabet\u003c\/a\u003e by several centuries. The oldest Mycenaean writing dates to about 1400 BC.
