"Life and art are constantly growing and evolving - so too with my journey as a lettering artist. I was trained as a graphic designer, and yet I was always stopping to study the brush work on store showcards so closely that people must have thought I was nearsighted. And I was… because it took several years for me to realize that my heart was calling me to hand lettering. Once realization hit, I took many courses by a variety of hand lettering greats, learning methods, styles and techniques from each one. My wife, Andrea, and I run a graphic studio and while I wield the brush and pen, Andrea provides valuable creative direction for my lettering. In the beginning stages we incorporated my lettering into our graphic projects for free … yes... those were the days. Soon we were being asked for my lettering skills outright. Logos such as 'The Fairmont Hotel'; lettering for packaging such as 'Meow Mix'; and book titles and author logos for publishers such as 'Harlequin' followed quickly. Although I like nothing more than pulling out a lettering nib and playing around for no other reason than the pure joy of shaping letters and watching ink flow, I discovered that there is also an extreme feeling of satisfaction in designing a font. From the first vision, to slowly honing the font to perfection, then finally seeing it come to its own life in usage - that too is joy. Sashay Script is my first font, but I don't intend it to be my last. Look forward to fonts from me that have either inspired me or because as a designer myself - I have seen the need."
