Located in Santiago, Chile, W is formed by Diego Aravena, Patricio Truenos and Bana Arasanz. “Our main goal is to create quality fonts through a strict design process incorporating global trends”. The W team brings their own various backgrounds into the mix when embarking on new projects. Diego Aravena actively teaches at Universidad de Chile’s Lettering & Typography Degree program, Patricio Truenos is a Graphic Designer & Calligraphy teacher, and rounding up the trio is Bana Arasanz; an advertiser Art Director & pop culture lover. All three of them have had their work selected for the last two editions of the “Latin American Typography Biennale” (2014 & 2016) with D Sari, Canilari, Carretón and Biblioteca.
W Foundry was originally founded by Felipe Sanzana and Diego Aravena in 2012 under the name Without Foundry. This project emerged out of Universidad de Chile’s Lettering & Typography Degree program, where Sanzana and Aravena met, shared their love towards letters, and brought Without Foundry to life.
In 2016, Diego Aravena joined forces with fellow type designers Patricio Truenos & Bana Arasanz in search of growth and adding new points of view on to W’s design proposal. Patricio Truenos & Bana Arasanz also have degrees in typography from Universidad de Chile (2012 and 2015 respectively). From that moment on, Without Foundry evolved into W Foundry; with a rapidly increasing catalogue, ranging from display, wavy and gothic style types to geometric and text.
