Within the \u003ca target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Italic_languages\"\u003eItalic languages\u003c\/a\u003e it is closely related to the \u003ca target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oscan_language\"\u003eOscan\u003c\/a\u003e group and is therefore associated with it in the group of \u003ca target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Osco-Umbrian_languages\"\u003eOsco-Umbrian languages\u003c\/a\u003e, a term generally replaced by Sabellic in modern scholarship. Since that classification was first formulated, a number of other languages in ancient Italy were discovered to be more closely related to Umbrian. Therefore, a group, the Umbrian languages, was devised to contain them.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eUmbrian is known from about 30 inscriptions dated from the 7th through 1st centuries BC. The largest cache by far is the \u003ca target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iguvine_Tablets\"\u003eIguvine Tablets\u003c\/a\u003e, seven inscribed bronze tablets found in 1444 near the village of \u003ca target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scheggia_e_Pascelupo\"\u003eScheggia\u003c\/a\u003e or, according to another tradition, in an underground chamber at \u003ca target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gubbio\"\u003eGubbio\u003c\/a\u003e (ancient \u003cem\u003eIguvium\u003c\/em\u003e). The seven tablets contain notes on the ceremonies and \u003ca target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Religious_law\"\u003estatutes\u003c\/a\u003e for \u003ca target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Priest\"\u003epriests\u003c\/a\u003e of the ancient religion in the region.
