Byington
Inspired by the ancient carvings chiselled into Trajan’s column in Rome, Byington pays homage to Trajan’s venerable lines but strips away the subtle nuances usually associated with the classic design. Fortified to withstand the requirements of video and other low resolution applications, Byington’s strength lies in its beefier serifs and speedier transitional curves. And what’s this? Recent excavations revealed a lowercase, ten meters below the column’s foundation. Just kidding! Byington’s lowercase is interfused with Sabon and Garamond, mirroring the pared down simplicity of the capitals.
Byington comes in three styles; regular, bold and italic. Each font has full a full set of upper and lower case, numerals, accents, punctuation and a selection of monetary symbols. Accents are included for: Albanian, Catalan, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish and Swedish. Byington is available in OpenType, TrueType and PostScript for both Mac and Windows. OpenType format has optional old-style numerals.
Every good designer appreciates the beauty and subtlety of Trajan’s column but there comes a time when you need more. Byington delivers a lot more; flexibility with a lowercase and timeless beauty that can withstand today’s digital environment.
