Über die Familie

Aljawhara , Arabic for "the jewel" : is an original hand-drawn Arabic display typeface from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Every letterform began as an ink drawing on paper before becoming a digital curve, and that origin shows: rounded, hooked letterheads, flowing waves, deep bowls beneath the baseline, and stems finished with a single confident chamfer cut. The result is a typeface that feels unmistakably Arabic and unmistakably its own , warm like handwriting, disciplined like modern type.

Aljawhara was designed as a display face with real presence. It shines in logos and brand identities, headlines and magazine covers, posters, packaging, wedding and event stationery, social media graphics, and signage , anywhere Arabic text needs to carry personality rather than disappear into neutrality. The letterforms hold their character at large sizes and remain readable in shorter text settings.

Functionally, the typeface is complete. Full contextual Arabic shaping is automatic: initial, medial, final, and isolated forms connect correctly as you type, with required ligatures, the lam-alef in all its forms, and precise mark positioning. The complete set of harakat — fatha, damma, kasra, sukun, shadda, and all three tanwin , is drawn by hand in the same visual language, making Aljawhara a rare display font that looks beautiful fully vocalized. Arabic-Indic numerals (٠–٩), Arabic punctuation, and a matching Latin companion (A–Z, a–z, 0–9) are included, so bilingual Arabic-English layouts stay visually consistent in one font.

Aljawhara pairs naturally with quiet, low-contrast sans serifs for body text — let it take the stage while a neutral text face does the reading.

The jewel of the family is the first release from Eisa AlEisa, an independent foundry drawing original Arabic type by hand in Riyadh.

Über Eisa AlEisa

Eisa AlEisa is an independent type foundry from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — the studio of artist and type designer Eisa AlEisa. Most release begins as an ink drawing on paper: letterforms shaped by hand long before they become digital curves, which gives the work a warmth and rhythm rooted in the visual culture of the Gulf. The foundry focuses on original Arabic type , contemporary designs with real personality, careful joins, deep bowls, and stems cut with a single confident chamfer. Each typeface is drawn to hold its character at display sizes and stay readable in text. The last release, Aljawhara, takes its name from the Arabic word for "the jewel."
