Marc Lamoureux

I am an independent type designer and the founder of GIGAFont Research. Every typeface I create begins as a complete alphabet drawn entirely by hand, giving each family its own natural rhythm, imperfections, and personality before it is digitized, refined, and developed into a professional font system. My work is influenced by engineering, technology, mechanical design, digital experimentation, glitch aesthetics, and the tension between precise systems and expressive human-made forms. Rather than designing around established type trends, I focus on developing original letterforms and complete visual systems from the ground up. Type design is an extracurricular creative outlet and a form of stress relief for me. My work ranges from technical and geometric lettering to experimental scripts, connected forms, and unconventional handwritten designs, with an emphasis on creating fonts that remain immediately recognizable even outside their original context. A defining element of my work is the way individual glyphs interact across an entire word. I deliberately create aesthetically distinctive letterforms that make typing itself visually rewarding, encouraging the user to continue simply to discover what the next word, phrase, or string of characters will become. That curiosity creates its own creative momentum. I discovered that this quality does more than make the fonts visually interesting. It has allowed me, and others close to me, to overcome writer’s block by keeping the creative switch engaged. Instead of staring at an empty page or losing momentum between ideas, the evolving appearance of the words provides another reason to continue writing. The typography becomes part of the creative process rather than merely the container for it. That emergent property became an important reason for sharing my work on a wider scale. Through GIGAFont Research, I want to create typefaces that do more than communicate language. I want them to provoke curiosity, reward experimentation, sustain creative momentum, and make the simple act of forming words feel visually new again.
