I’ve spent my life obsessed with the alphabet. Based in Brussels, LL Type Foundry is the culmination of a journey that started in the world of contemporary art and graffiti before moving into a more formal education at the Academy of Art in The Hague. Before launching the foundry in 2008, I spent years in the design trenches—working across editorial, packaging, advertising, and illustration. That background as a graphic designer is exactly what drives my process today. I don’t just draw letters; I build tools for designers. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to letter shapes, obsessed with the tension of a balanced curve and the power of negative space. For me, the space around the letter is just as much of a graphic element as the stroke itself. Whether it’s a historically-rooted face or a typeface capturing the current zeitgeist (like my recent work on the Brussels Airlines logo), my goal is always the same: bold, expressive display type that hits the mark every single time.
