À propos de la famille

Baro-XTD is an expanded and updated replacement of Baro B (Previously named Baro Black) The most significant update is the addition the very wide Expanded and Expanded Italic masters, plus an italic for the condensed width, and the creation of a variable version on the width axis.

This is an expressive typeface that works well in posters, loud, cheerful (in spite of a rigid adherence to geometric rules)... Super-fat headlines and packaging for odd toys you didn't think they made anymore. With its bold and distinctively stylized geometric forms, it is ideal for logos, heavy machinery and wacky party invites. I mean, it was fun to make and I'm having a bit of fun selling it... Seriously though, Baro-XTD's roots are in ultra heavy versions of Art Deco and latrer Art Deco inspired type faces such as Futura, Avant Guarde, Centrury Gothic, etc. and various revivals from the the 1960's.

Baro-XTD had its beginning in a small handful of rigidly geometric uppercase letters from an unidentified 1960s or 70s era counter-less, stencil-style press-down lettering font, which in turn was probably a revival of a 1920s era Art Deco font. The challenge was to make a complete upper and lower case font from the information available in the existing eight Upper Case letters. The exercise quickly grew into a complete typeface with 300+ characters, stylistic alternates, ligatures, multilingual support and both lining and old style numerals. Baro-XTD maintains much of the characteristic geometric rigidity of the original handful of letters... But with the addition of just bit of flare... A smile. A wave of cheerfulness breaks through, like a wink and a smile on the face of an otherwise stern policeman.

À propos Our House Graphics

My name is Russell McGorman. I design typefaces, and this is my Foundry page... I have been making and publishing fonts since 2009. After graduating from the Ontario College of Art and Design, I went to work as a graphic artist and silk-screen printer at a small print shop in Toronto where I worked on a diverse range of projects, from museum displays and prop signage for film sets to control panels for oil rigs and power generating plants. After a few of years, of that I went on to work for a regional public transit agency, designing signage and special products and later as a wayfinding specialist and designer.I began designing and publishing typefaces in 2009 after being assigned the task of recommending ways to make the signage more accessible... Among all the possible paths to better signage for the purpose typography stands out, and on closer examination, of course, the type itself... This led me down a deep rabbit hole that began with the simple question, “How exactly do digital typefaces work, and how are they made?” This quickly progressed to designing and publishing my own growing catalogue of fonts, all of which are created with a passion for excellence and a love for the art and science of type.
