À propos de la famille

Eregalle takes its name from Eregalle, the earliest documented form of Ariogala—one of Lithuania’s oldest settlements and a place where Baltic memory runs deep. Its river valleys and ancient fort sites still echo with the geometry of pagan cosmology: sun-wheels, world-trees, spirals of protection, and carved talismanic marks. These symbols form the backbone of the typeface’s visual language, grounding it firmly in the mythic landscape of its origin. Yet Eregalle is also shaped by a second heritage. The crossed-blade motifs—while resonant with Baltic notions of protection and guardianship—also mirror the St. George symbolism deeply embedded in English visual culture. In Lithuania, such crossed forms appear on folk crosses and boundary markers; in England, St. George’s sword is an emblem of courage, vigilance, and moral defence. By merging these parallel traditions, the typeface becomes a bridge between two symbolic worlds rather than belonging exclusively to one. That duality is personal. Born in Ariogala and raised in London, I stand at the meeting point of these stories. Eregalle reflects that journey: Lithuanian in its mythic geometry, English in its heraldic echoes, modern in its clarity, and adaptable across both languages. It carries the spirit of ancient ritual carving yet speaks with the refinement of contemporary typographic practice. More than a typeface, Eregalle is a cultural crossing—an alphabet shaped by two homelands, two symbol systems, and the lived experience of moving between them. Special characters include: Crossed swords—a guardian emblem expressing protection, courage, and the defence of one’s home or lineage—Ariogala’s Coat of Arms; Cross—a modern Lithuanian world-tree cross, fusing sun, moon, and protective geometry into a single emblem of balance and renewal. This typeface is designed intentionally for English and Lithuanian, expressing a dual-language identity. The character set is purposefully restricted.

À propos Paula Minelgaite

My typefaces explore the shifting boundaries of identity and belonging, drawing inspiration from the places, histories, and social moments that shape how communities form and change. They transform place and cultural memory into letterforms that carry emotional depth and visual resonance, making them ideal for designers seeking to convey rich narratives and connections through typography.
