Here’s a tall, narrow, and boxy sans-serif packaged in two exciting flavors—Contemporary and Art Deco. Use Melrose Modern One for those hard-to-fit headlines that require precision, impact, and a bit of style. Go a step further with Melrose Modern Two and create a highly geometric and decorative setting that looks reminiscent of the 20s and 30s. You can try combining characters from Melrose Modern One with Melrose Modern Two to form even more distinctive and interesting titles and headlines. A variety of unusual alternate characters plus a set of tall and short figures are also included for your convenience. Melrose Modern is now available in the OpenType format. Many new features have been added to this OpenType version including Small Caps, Old Style Figures, Swash, and Stylistic Alternates. Advanced features work in current versions of Adobe Creative Suite InDesign, Creative Suite Illustrator, and Quark XPress. Check for OpenType advanced feature support in other applications as it gradually becomes available with upgrades.

Jim Spiece enjoyed resurrecting old typefaces. And finding a complete set of characters could often be a challenging task. It took him down into the musty basements of public libraries and out into the world of flea markets and hole-in-the-wall bookstores. After careful scanning and hand-outlining, he would occasionally dig deeper for a missing punctuation mark or double f-ligature. Jim chuckled, “These are all minor inconveniences when you consider you’ve brought these faces back from obscurity and found them new homes. Besides, it’s fun. In one sense, my own designs are a lot easier because they never had a previous life!” You can check out Jim’s revival of the Bernhard Gothic SG Family offered by FontHaus or his popular ITC Blair Family.
