À propos de la famille

Letterforms are part of our everyday experience, yet few of us stop to question the shapes that make up our alphabets. We often accept these forms as fixed, despite the fact that letterforms have continually evolved throughout history. Puerile Display explores the relationship between flow, form, and function by combining contemporary typographic principles with the spirit of Civilité calligraphy and type design.

Taking its name from Civilité Puérile, Puerile Display references Robert Granjon's sixteenth-century efforts to engage younger readers through distinctive letterforms. Rather than recreating Civilité directly, the typeface uses its historical foundations as a starting point for re-examining familiar alphabetic structures through a contemporary lens.

Playful, ornate, and distinctive, Puerile Display draws upon the decorative character of Civilité while retaining a clear Gothic foundation. Historic influences are balanced with modern proportions, details, and construction, resulting in a typeface that feels rooted in tradition while remaining relevant to contemporary visual culture.

A rich set of OpenType features, including contextual alternates and stylistic sets, allows the typeface to embrace its historical influences without being constrained by them. Inspired particularly by the expressive uppercase forms of Civilité, Puerile Display reimagines familiar letterforms to explore how ornament, legibility, and convention can coexist within a functional writing system.

The result is a typeface that remains readable while introducing alternative structures and unexpected forms. Designed for projects that value personality and expression, Puerile Display embraces the idea that typography can communicate through atmosphere and visual rhythm as much as through language itself.
