Rahul Type

Rahul Type is the independent type design practice of Rahul Radhakrishnan, a Kerala-based type and brand designer with over 10 years of experience. Specializing in the Malayalam script, Rahul Type blends regional character with modern design sensibilities to create expressive, versatile, and culturally rooted typefaces.The journey began in 2015 with the release of Karoor, a Malayalam-Latin text typeface featuring over 1,000 characters, including Old Lipi forms. Commissioned by National Book Stall, Karoor marked a key milestone in Rahul’s career. It was followed by MP Paul, another Malayalam-Latin combo, and Kochi Matters, Rahul Type’s first fully Latin font. Since then, the foundry has expanded its library with multilingual typefaces including RIT Lekha, RT Chunk, and RT Graxor, showcasing a wide stylistic range and technical depth.With a strong emphasis on experimentation, Rahul Type develops typefaces that solve real design problems while maintaining a distinctive visual voice. Custom fonts for brands and organizations form a key part of the studio's work—helping clients express identity through bespoke letterforms.Beyond type creation, Rahul Type is active in education and creative collaborations. Rahul has conducted several workshops on typeface design and typography, aiming to build awareness around regional scripts and support the next generation of designers. The studio’s work extends to film, book, and poster titles, where type becomes a narrative element.Rahul Type has been recognized by platforms such as RIT and Typoday and continues to grow with a vision of expanding typographic possibilities in Indian and global contexts. Whether designing for print, screen, or identity, the studio’s work is grounded in clarity, cultural relevance, and creative exploration.
