Shelf

Guides calmly and confidently

Shelf is a tool designed for visual information
systems that need to guide users calmly, consistently
and with a clear hierarchy of information.

Shelf is a humanist sans-serif typeface with a cool, rational character. Its restrained form draws inspiration from the landscape of ice shelves, a reference also reflected in the name of the typeface. Shelf was designed for clear visual information systems where legibility, order and calm guidance are essential.

Its proportions, letter construction and extensive character set make it suitable for both long-form text and projects that require a clear hierarchy of information. Shelf works well in exhibition identities, wayfinding systems, accompanying publications and other contexts where typography needs to organise content and support user orientation.

Each style includes more than 1,500 glyphs, including small caps, a full set of numerals, stylistic alternates, an extensive arrow system and OpenType features. Shelf supports a broad range of Latin-based languages and was prepared for demanding information, editorial and identity projects.

À propos 21Type

21Type — Szymon Sznajder I specialize in typeface design, lettering, logotypes, and concise, letter- and symbol-based graphic forms. I work as an independent designer in Poznań, Poland. For nearly two decades, I have been designing letterforms for professional visual communication. My work combines drawing by hand, experience in type design, and precise digital refinement of detail, so that the letterforms I design perform consistently across different sizes, media, and contexts of use. I graduated from the University of the Arts in Poznań, where both my BA and MA diploma projects were typeface design projects. Since 2013, I have been associated with the University of the Arts in Poznań through teaching.
