Gordan Jast

Berlin-based type designer and founder of Gordan Jast Type. After completing an intensive type design training at Tatin Design Enterprises in Basel, Switzerland, the practice developed across type design, lettering and visual identity, with a particular interest in the relationship between geometry, rhythm and contemporary visual culture. The approach combines precise construction with a sensitivity to proportion, detail and expressive form. Rooted in the traditions of German and Swiss typography, the work develops typefaces as distinctive visual systems that balance functional clarity with individual character. The practice is informed by the rigorous reduction of Swiss design as well as the experimental and conceptual traditions of contemporary European typography. Particular interest lies in the space between systematic construction and expressive form, exploring how subtle changes in proportion, rhythm and detail can create a distinctive typographic voice. Based in Berlin, the practice operates independently and collaborates internationally with designers and creative directors. The current type practice is developed under Gordan Jast Type, an independent type foundry launching with Naica and Vitral. Both type families were developed through a close dialogue between German type design and Swiss Creative Direction, bringing together different perspectives on form, structure and visual culture. Through an independent approach to type design, the practice continues to develop typefaces that combine typographic precision with a strong sense of identity, creating contemporary tools for designers, brands and visual cultures.
