Rillatype

Rillatype is me, a type designer in Yogyakarta. I draw the fonts and test odd ideas on the way. I started making fonts after I noticed that one curve could change the mood of a whole word. I still work that way. I draw one letter, then the next, and adjust them until they sit well together. Some fonts start as a pencil sketch. Others start as a question, like how a script looks when the letters don’t join, or how heavy a sans can get before it reads like a stamp. I try the idea and keep the parts that work.
