Sobre a família

Introducing "Cherokee Bickerdike 01". This font is an innovative and revolutionary font design which has been used to empower learners and speakers of the Cherokee language, originally used along with other fonts created in 2023 by Don Bickerdike and also as a print form as applied to the Bickerdike Extended Transliteration (B.E.T.) method. Each character has previously been used around the perimeter of the Clockface template and the Shorthand Clockface Template (as a phonetic guide surrounding the outer rim of each Clockface) to help the reader identify the correct phonetic sounds associated with each syllabary character by showing the basic phonetic sounds. This font can be used in conjunction with the Bickerdike Extended Transliteration (B.E.T.) method (a custom phonetic system engineered for precision and consistency) when typing in either a transliterated form or a phonetic form. Unique Features for Enhanced Learning To accommodate the Tone/Duration part of the B.E.T. method, this font also includes uniquely designed numerals and hyphen, crafted to visually represent the phonetic tones and syllable durations of the Cherokee language, much like notes on a music score. (In this font, the hyphen key remains as the hyphen key, and therefore there is no need to modify the double-quotation mark within this font.) Numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 are each uniquely styled to represent their respective tone levels. (Numbers 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0 have a similar design without the additional dot showing any tone level.) The number "4" is represented by a grave accent character (  ̀ ), providing a comprehensive and intuitive system for understanding and reproducing the phonetic tones of the language. For added clarity when using the B.E.T. method, the hyphen (-) is used to show vowel duration. This unique feature helps users visually distinguish between single-keystroke syllables (-) in representing the shorter duration of a vowel and double-keystroke syllables (--) in representing the longer duration of a vowel. All elements included in this font (the phonetic system, the unique number designs, and the custom punctuation usage) were created and copyrighted in 2023. These designs are featured in the original published eBook on the Cherokee language, Revolutionary Cherokee: What You See Is What You Say by font creator Don Bickerdike (Copyright 2023 Don Bickerdike.)

Sobre Deep Perspective Books

Osiyo! This work, including the 3-in-1 Cherokee Font "Cherokee Bickerdike 05", is an independent project by a Cherokee Nation citizen dedicated to language revitalization. The 3-in-1 font, the "Cherokee Bickerdike 05", has been vetted by the Cherokee Nation and has been approved for accuracy. These tools are designed to fill specific needs, particularly for At-Large learners outside the Nation's primary service area. The modest fee ensures the project's sustainability and continued development. Deep Perspective Books is a unique and specialized foundry born from a commitment to language preservation and education. Founded by an author and publisher of books focused on the Cherokee language, our mission is to provide intuitive tools that make the process of learning complex writing systems more accessible and effective. This foundry's work is driven by a deep respect for indigenous cultures and a passionate belief in the power of language. The creation of our fonts began with a simple but profound observation: to truly learn and master the Cherokee syllabary, learners need more than just characters; they need a comprehensive and logical guide to pronunciation. Our fonts are the direct result of years of dedicated study and personal experience in language acquisition. They are engineered to solve the practical challenges that learners face by providing all the necessary phonetic information within a single, integrated character. Our most popular font, a phonetic tool designed specifically for the Oklahoma / Overhill Cherokee dialect, is a testament to this philosophy. It seamlessly combines the syllabary character with a smaller phonetic guide using our custom-designed Bickerdike Extended Transliteration (B.E.T.) system. This innovative system, created from a logical and consistent set of lowercase English letters based on the creator's own handwriting, is further enhanced by the inclusion of alternate consonant sounds. To the right of each character, the Standard Transliteration is also included, offering a familiar reference for learners at any stage. Beyond phonetics, we have incorporated an advanced system for tone. The numbers '1', '2', '3', and a grave accent (the ascii-tilde key) are uniquely designed to serve as visual tone markers, much like notes on a musical score. This feature empowers learners to understand and reproduce the correct tones, which are crucial for accurate pronunciation. The entire design, from the phonetic system to the tonal markers, was created and copyrighted in 2023, as documented in the published eBook, "Revolutionary Cherokee: What You See Is What You Say." This commitment to intellectual rigor and authenticity is at the heart of our work. At Deep Perspective Books, we believe in empowering language learners. We are not just creating fonts; we are building bridges to cultural and linguistic heritage. While our journey begins with the Cherokee language, our vision extends to creating similar phonetic fonts for other Native American tribes, contributing to the broader effort of language revitalization.
