Introducing Cherokee East Bick 05 (Regular and Bold) Note: the “East” represents the “Eastern” dialect variations used in this font version. This Eastern version includes the z phonetic representation (the t or d plus the s or z affricate) with an alternate j, ch option for all of the ts syllabary characters, includes the superscript uh along with the nasal unh for the v syllabary character, and includes the sh superscript along with the s syllabary character. The Cherokee East Bick 05 (Regular and Bold) is an innovative and revolutionary font designed to empower learners and speakers of the Cherokee language. It's a comprehensive educational tool that goes beyond a simple typeface, integrating three critical elements into each character to create an intuitive learning aid. (The Bold version applies the bold style to the numbers and punctuation only.) Each unique character provides a complete phonetic guide: • A large, clear syllabary character occupies the upper-left, serving as the primary visual representation of the syllable. • Directly below is the Standard Bickerdike Phonetic / SBP (previously referenced as the Bickerdike Extended Transliteration / B.E.T.), a custom phonetic system engineered for precision and consistency. For specific syllables, the SBP /B.E.T. also includes a smaller, alternate consonant character to clarify subtle sound variations. • To the right of the syllabary is the Standard Transliteration, offering a familiar reference for learners to check their understanding against conventional transliteration systems. Unique Features for Enhanced Learning This font also includes uniquely designed numerals, crafted to visually represent the phonetic tones of the Cherokee language, much like notes on a music score. • Numbers 1, 2, and 3 are each uniquely styled to represent their respective tone levels. • The number "4" is represented by a grave accent character (  ̀ ), providing a comprehensive and intuitive system for understanding and reproducing the phonetic tones of the language. For added clarity in syllable structure, the double quotation (") has been reassigned to type a hyphen (-). This allows the single apostrophe to be used to show a glottal stop. This unique feature helps users visually distinguish between single-keystroke syllable durations which are shorter (-) and double-keystroke syllable durations which are longer (--). This is a custom solution, as the Cherokee language does not require the use of a single apostrophe. All elements included in this font (the phonetic system, the unique number designs, and the custom punctuation usage) were created and copyrighted in 2023. These designs are featured in the original published eBook on the Cherokee language, Revolutionary Cherokee: What You See Is What You Say by font creator Don Bickerdike. Sobre Deep Perspective Books

Osiyo! (The order page will show any current discounts applied automatically to support accessibility for learners.) Deep Perspective Books is an independent Cherokee-owned foundry dedicated to language revitalization and educational clarity. Our work includes the 3‑in‑1 Cherokee fonts Cherokee Bickerdike 05, Cherokee Bickerdike 01, and Cherokee East Bick 05—tools designed to support learners both inside and outside the Cherokee Nation’s primary service area. The flagship font, Cherokee Bickerdike 05, has been vetted and approved for accuracy by the Cherokee Nation. The Cherokee East Bick 05 extends this system to reflect the nuances of the Eastern dialect. These fonts exist to meet real, practical needs for At‑Large learners who often lack access to fluent speakers and consistent pronunciation guidance. The modest licensing fee ensures the sustainability and continued development of this revitalization work. Deep Perspective Books was founded by a Cherokee Nation citizen, author, and publisher committed to preserving Indigenous languages through intuitive, learner‑centered design. Our mission is simple: make complex writing systems easier to learn by embedding clarity directly into the tools themselves. The 3‑in‑1 system grew from a key insight: learners need more than characters—they need transparent pronunciation. Each glyph integrates three layers of information: the full Cherokee syllabary character the Bickerdike Extended Transliteration (B.E.T.) phonetic guide, part of the broader Standard Bickerdike Phonetics (SBP) system designed for intuitive, consistent pronunciation the Standard Transliteration for familiar reference To support accurate pronunciation, the fonts also include a unique tone‑marking system using the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the a grave accent key (the ASCII tilde key), functioning visually like musical notation. These innovations were created and copyrighted in 2023, as documented in the eBook Revolutionary Cherokee: What You See Is What You Say. At Deep Perspective Books, we are not simply creating fonts—we are building bridges to cultural and linguistic heritage. While our work begins with Cherokee, our long‑term vision includes developing similar phonetic systems for other Native American languages, contributing to the broader movement of Indigenous language revitalization.
