Sobre a família

Kopists were the poor guys in the 16th century who copied important texts like the Bible or important state documents and certificates over and over again. At that time a widespread handwriting was the Humanist Cursive which originated from Italy. The scribes of the time were dissatisfied by the "slow" Humanist minuscule and tended towards using the Humanist Cursive (from Latin currere „run, hurry").

We studies documents of the time and came out with 4 fonts which slightly change between 10 variants for each of the 376 characters. The fonts comprise of Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic versions. Each character of the more than 5100 glyphs per font was hand drawn (no simple slanting of characters). The fonts have Latin Eastern European and Baltic character sets (sorry, no Cyrillic this time), some ligatures, special word end characters, and swash capitals (not too fancy, but more usable in text copy).

All in all we believe Kopist gives you a nice toolset for creating authentic medieval and Renaissance-style documents without the hassle of writing them by hand.

Sobre Fontroll

Fontroll foundry currently consits solely of Werner Eschmann, Zürich, Switzerland. For more than 30 years I follow the type design scene and developments in technique. For about the same period I’ve been creating fonts ‑ without finishing most of them. Thanks to coronavirus pandemic I finally had some time to complete my best ideas. Expect to see a couple of new fonts with a twist.
