Sobre a família

Ornate Slab AOE is preserved in the Astigmatic Institute’s Institutional Typography Archive as a study in financial and architectural letterforms once associated with banks, government buildings, and civic institutions. The design combines the sturdy presence of classic slab serif typography with ornamental layering systems that echo engraved certificates, banknote printing, and cast metal signage. Broad serifs, confident vertical strokes, and balanced proportions give the alphabet a tone of authority and permanence, while the expanded style system introduces decorative dimensional effects. Inline and layered variants recreate the embellished lettering often seen on early financial documents, storefront signage, and engraved seals, while the heavier weights deliver bold headline power suitable for signage and branding. The family spans Light through Ultra weights, allowing designers to move from refined institutional text to monumental display typography while maintaining a consistent structural foundation. Ornate Slab AOE works beautifully for vintage branding, editorial design, signage systems, poster typography, packaging, and historical themed graphics where strength and elegance must coexist. Within the Institute archives it stands as a reconstruction of the typographic language that once defined banks, stock exchanges, and the architecture of financial authority.

Sobre Astigmatic

In 1873, the strange and fantastic story began. Nearly two centuries later, Brian J. Bonislawsky was born, and carrying on a mix of the the footsteps his ancestors before him took, he picked up the the traditions and founded the Astigmatic One Eye Foundry, which later expanded to become the Astigmatic One Eye Typographic Institute. (For more of the background story, see the Historical Perspective link below.) Since its founding Astigmatic has worked with dozens of designers, helping them forge their own foundries as well as helping to increase the quality of type created by Astigmatic and these other foundries. Astigmatic strives to continually increase its range of typographic scope; taking on expeditions to revive old typestyles, unearth long lost typefaces, forge new styles yet unseen, and begin to develop more comprehensive language typestyles of the WGL4 set size which includes Greek and Cyrillic extensions. If you are looking for a wide variety of typographic influence and style, the Astigmatic One Eye Institute is your source for type.
