Though its concept isn’t new, Poipoi reimagines the classic stacking type system, a technique dating back to the era of wood type printing. In those days, printers created multi-color visuals by layering separate printing plates, each inked in a different color.
Poipoi brings this tradition into the digital age, using layered styles to build vibrant 3D effects. It’s designed for use in Photoshop, Illustrator, or any design software that supports layered typography. Each layer functions like a printing plate, allowing you to assign different colors to build depth and dimension.
The “Standard” style serves as the base. By stacking Highlight and Shadow layers, you can easily create dynamic, three-dimensional type.
Poipoi Standard, Highlighted, and shadowed style are also fully usable on their own, offering visual versatility across a range of applications. Poipoi’s rounded terminals add a touch of softness, charm, and casual appeal, making it ideal for both bold branding and playful visual storytelling.
Instruction
1. Type your text as you like.
2. Set font-name "Poipoi" and font-style "Standard"
3. Set color of "Standard" layer.
4. Duplicate the "Standard" layer twice (One for Highlight, one for Shadow).
4'. The layer order should be Highlight, Standard, and Shadow from top to bottom.
5. Set font-style and color of "Highlight" and "Shadow" layers.
6. Adjust tracking if you need. (Please use same tracking value for all 3 layers.)
