Sobre la familia

AlMai is a geometric Kufi display typeface, and the second release in a growing library of Arabic display faces named after Arabic women's names , each drawn from the designer's twenty-year archive of lettering work.

AlMai pairs the discipline of geometric construction with distinctly calligraphic gestures: leaf-shaped apexes on the ascenders, open and closed counters that follow classical Arabic construction (the ʿayn opens in its initial form and closes mid-word), and a dead-level connecting baseline engineered so every joint aligns precisely.

AlMai is a display face, and proudly so. It is drawn for headlines, wordmarks, posters, packaging and titling at large sizes where its thin monoline and sharp detailing come alive. It is not intended for text settings.

The character set covers the full Arabic alphabet with four-form contextual shaping, all eight vowel marks with engineered mark positioning for fully vocalised display setting, the complete hamza set, teh marbuta and alef maqsura, lam-alef ligatures, Arabic-Indic numerals, Arabic punctuation. A compact humanist Latin is included in a supporting role for bilingual captions and credits.

Acerca de Eisa AlEisa

Eisa AlEisa is an independent type foundry from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia , the studio of artist and type designer Eisa AlEisa. Most releases begins as an ink drawing on paper: letterforms shaped by hand long before they become digital curves, which gives the work a warmth and rhythm rooted in the visual culture of the Gulf. The foundry focuses on original Arabic type , contemporary designs with real personality, careful joins, deep bowls, and stems cut with a single confident chamfer. Each typeface is drawn to hold its character at display sizes and stay readable in text. The last release, Aljawhara, takes its name from the Arabic word for "the jewel."
